Our time as Sainsbury’s (Bretton Store) has sadly come to an end, but thanks to the efforts of their staff and PAB volunteers, we have raised an incredible £6000. Sainsbury staff came to our coffee morning and Lillian presented us with the cheque which we were thrilled to receive. PAB Chairperson Sylvie made a wonderful speech about how our relationship had blossomed and how much we will miss them. She went on to say that they had been a joy to work with, giving up their time to help and support our fundraising. We must say a massive thank you to PAB’s Norma Wildman and Sylvie Wheeler spent a lot of time and hard work organising the different events throughout the year and rallying the volunteers to help out.
“Norma and I have really enjoyed working over the last year with the Sainsbury’s staff, although at times it was a little stressful, especially for Norma when trying to persuade family, friends and of course, our brilliant volunteers to help. As usual they came and gave their all. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in some way.” Sylvie Wheeler PAB chairperson
Our last event with them was a bag pack and collection in store followed by a pizza and race night evening. We spent the weekend in the foyer with an information stand and collection tins and also packing shopping bags at the tills. There was also a guess the rabbits name and a tombola. It was hard work, but enjoyable and definitely worth it. A special thank you to Peter Skivington and Betty (Peter’s dog), Hugh Robinson and Liz and Roger Ebbage (and Liz’s dog Evie) for helping us raise over £1200!
The weekend culminated on Bank holiday Sunday evening with a Pizza and horse racing night in Sainsbury’s restaurant. It was packed with volunteers, service users and Sainsbury’s staff who all seemed to be having fun placing bets on the horse racing. The Pizza and cakes went down really well too, with two lots of extra paper plates needed!
“We all loved the race night. It was a great night and I think the staff did a wonderful job and even more so the ones who had been at work all day! They don’t get paid for that so shows what a great bunch of people they are. Being Sainsbury charity of the year brings home just how much the staff do and Leigh pulled off another great event.” Norma Wildman, PAB
We all went home very happy knowing that the night had raised over £500, bringing the total over the weekend to £1700. A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us during our time as Sainsbury’s charity of the year. You can see more photos from the two events in our gallery page.
