Most new films have an audio commentary option which runs parallel to the film. Your local Cinema should have portable headphones that can pick up the commentary, no matter where you are seated in the room. This allows blind and partially sighted people to enjoy the surround sound experience that a cinema offers while the action is described through the headphones.
Thanks to funding from the Peoples Health Trust, we have started a new cinema club for PAB members and their carers. The club meets once a month to enjoy a different film which has been requested by the members (Please contact the office if there is a film you would like to suggest). After the film, there is the option to have a coffee or snack in the venue’s lounge bar where you can discuss the film or suggest ideas for the next film if one of the trailers has interested you. There is plenty of free parking (including dedicated Blue Badge holder spaces) at the venue and PAB can organise transport to the venue if required.
If you have a CEA card, your carer can go free at this cinema (90% of cinemas accept the CEA card). The CEA Card allows you to obtain ONE free ticket for the person who is accompanying you to enable you to visit the cinema, by providing the assistance you require as a result of your disability, provided you purchase an applicable full price ticket for yourself for the same performance of the same film in the same auditorium. The free ticket is provided on the assumption that the person who accompanies you is able to provide you with appropriate assistance. You must apply for the card in advance by calling 023 922 48545 or visiting www.ceacard.co.uk. The card costs £6.00 and is valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
