After being nominated by one of our members, PAB was shortlisted to receive a Lloyds Bank Community Fund grant! PAB competed against 3 other charities in a public vote throughout September and October 2014 to decide who should be awarded the funds.
PAB launched a Facebook and Twitter voting campaign and asked members and their families to campaign on our behalf and encourage other friends and their families to vote for us. We also had volunteers present in branches of Lloyds bank to drum up support and talk to customers about our charity and the good work we do in Peterborough. This was an important grant for us to recieve as it would allow PAB to provide information packs to people who are newly diagnosed with sight loss, providing support, information, and guidance to local blind and partially sighted people and their families.
We are delighted to say that PAB came first in the Lloyds Bank Community Fund vote and have been awarded £3000 towards the cost of producing the information packs. We received an amazing 42.9% of the votes, so thank you all for your support.
We are now working with other members of the Peterborough Low Vision Forum to put together a information pack that will detail services available and where they can be accessed such as transport needs, living aids or benefit entitlements. Basic information like this is currently not available in a single, easy access pack, so people who are newly diagnosed with sight loss often face a worrying time while trying to locate the information they need. Thanks to your help, we are now able to provide this!
The Lloyds Bank Community Fund was set up to help local people across England Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to have a positive impact at the heart of their community by giving grants to up to 1,400 local good causes in 350 communities.
“We believe in helping the communities we’re part of to thrive. That’s why our community fund provides grants to support local good causes across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. In 2014, our community fund will see over 1,400 good causes receive an award of £3,000, £2,000, £1,000 or £500.”
