On Wednesday 27th May 2015 at our regular coffee morning (held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month) we were delighted to be joined again by the staff from Sainsburys in Bretton. They had come for the last event with us as their charity of the year and it was a great way for us to show our appreciation for everything they have done for us over the last 12 months. Armed with beautiful fresh flowers, prizes and of course, tasty food, they laid on a wonderful spread and it was great to see so many members there to enjoy it. Even the Peterborough Telegraph photographer arrived to capture the moment and the picture should be printed in the 4th June addition.

There was a lively atmosphere with lots of appreciation for the selection of food. There was Taste the Difference cakes, delicious biscuits, selections of cheeses, fudge and many more delights! As you can imagine, it didn’t take long for the plates to be finished!

After everyone was full, Jaime Elliott-Sands from Sainsburys kicked off the quiz they had prepared. Three of the teams scored the same so it was down to a tie break question. The winners were given boxes of shortbread biscuits which Sainsburys kindly donated.

Jaime then thanked PAB for being such a good charity to work with and announced that the total amount that PAB and Sainsburys had fundraised over the last year, was £4,000 – news that was met with great applause! PAB volunteer Sylvie Wheeler then gave an emotional speech – thanking all the Sainsburys staff for being so generous with their time and money.

Slyvie Wheeler“When Norma and I walked into Sainsburys a year ago, pitching to become their charity of the year, we didn’t know what to expect. Now I can say that working with Sainsburys has been absolutely wonderful; they are so supportive and the staff are lovely (and I’m not just saying that because you have given us over £4,000!). I want to say a massive thank you, because the money will help us to carry on supporting blind and partially sighted people -making life that little bit easier. Sainsburys are the first business I have worked with and they have set a very high bench mark because it’s been a wonderful year. So on behalf of the members and committee, a massive thank you very much“. Sylvie Wheeler, PAB Volunteer and member

The morning finished with our usual raffle, but thanks to some wonderful prizes donated by Sainsburys (including wine, scented candles, biscuits and much more) tickets sold fast and we made another £43 to put towards future coffee mornings. Please click here to visit our gallery page where there are more pictures of the Taster event.

The morning was another huge success. We were sad to say goodbye to Sainsburys and have thoroughly enjoyed being their charity of the year.
