Every 15 minutes someone in the UK begins to lose their sight. There are two million people living with sight loss in the UK right now. That number is currently growing by another 100 people every day. The UK’s ageing population means there will be an increase in the number of people suffering from age-related sight loss. In fact it is predicted that by 2050 the number of people with sight loss in the UK will double to nearly four million.
The Peterborough Association for the Blind (PAB) is a Charity which has been operating for over 100 years. The Association provides tailored support, friendship and hope to hundreds of visually impaired people and their families and friends across Peterborough, as well as training and supporting the many volunteers, whom without their support, we would not be able to provide the best help possible to meet our members needs.
Gifts in Wills help us to provide our essential services. Your legacy gift will transform lives and help us create a brighter future for people with sight loss. A gift in your Will is a great way to continue your support; it doesn’t cost a penny now, it’s easy to do and you’ll help people living with sight loss in the future. With no financial help from the Statutory Authorities, or other major organisations this Association has to generate all its own income from those sympathetic to its cause. In this context, legacy income is now a very important part of our operating budget.
As you will appreciate, a very few meaningful legacies can make a substantial difference to our financial status. Moreover an accumulation of small donations can be equally effective; a client may wish to nominate this Association to receive donations from those attending his/her funeral in commemoration, rather than receiving flowers.
How we will use your legacy
As the number of people registering as visually impaired increases, our resources are put under ever increasing strain. With your help, we will be able to:
- Continue to support the visually impaired population of Peterborough
- Recruit new Trustees and volunteer workers
- Compile a membership and supporters register, for effective communication with users and potential supporters and donors.
- Grow our fundraising strategy to increase income from multi sources
- Improve communications to our members including replacing outdated technology
- Address transport needs including a future capital appeal to purchase a minibus.
- Introduce new services and strengthen those already provided.
- Form better partnerships and work closer with other organisation serving the needs of PAB users.
You can make a real difference
After providing for your loved ones, remembering us with a gift in your Will can help us support hundreds of visually impaired people across Peterborough . As we are a registered charity, leaving a legacy is also tax free and will reduce the inheritance tax burden on your estate. Every gift, no matter how large or small, will make a huge difference to the services we can offer. A legacy gift to Peterborough Association for the Blind can be made in several different ways, which your solicitor will explain to you more fully.
When making or revising your Will, or perhaps by adding a codicil to your existing Will, would you kindly consider including a bequest to PAB?
From all the members and volunteers at the PAB – Thank you for your support
