Despite all the talk of thundery showers, it was a beautiful warm sunny day for our 2015 Strawberry Fayre on Saturday 4th July. Our volunteers arrived in force and were busy preparing the fresh strawberries, setting up the tables and decorating the railings outside with balloons and posters advertising our Cream Tea’s. This year we also had a take away table at the back of the church for people to enjoy our cakes on the lovely grass area outside. Our raffle table looked amazing with all the donated prizes and was in pride of place at the church entrance.
At 1.30pm the 40 ladies from ‘A handful of Harmonies’ arrived and set up at the front of the church – all looking gorgeous in pink shirts. If you have never heard the choir sing – we would highly recommend it as they were absolutely fantastic and many people walking past the church called in to listen to them perform and gave a donation. The church was a perfect venue as their voices echoed about the room and sounded beautiful. Andrew Clingo was the choirmaster (and founder) and accompanied the ladies on the piano. We are very grateful that Andrew agreed to perform for us and persuaded so many choir members to give up their Saturday afternoon for us. This year, our scones and cakes were kindly provided by the BGL group who have several well known brands such as comparethemarket.com. In 2012 they set out to raise or donate £3m for charitable causes by the end of 2017, and PAB were lucky enough to be part of this. There were hundreds of scones and Victoria cream cakes with fresh cream and strawberries on top – all baked and individually decorated by Andy, their Executive Chef. They were delicious and we had so many nice compliments about them – so thanks to BGL and everyone who got involved to make this possible. Please click here to find out more about the BGL group.
At 3.30pm it was time to draw the raffle. It was hugely successful this year thanks to some great prizes generously donated by local business and the many volunteers who went out selling them before the event. There were some sought after prizes and lots of disappointment when they were not won! Below are the people/businesses who donated this year: Mick George, Peterborough Greyhound Stadium, Nene Valley Railway, The Blue Bell in Werrington, Michael John, J’Re, Thorpe Wood Gold Course, Fitzwilliam Arms, The College Arms, Parrotts Fish Parlour, Michael Watson, The Tanning Booth, Bills Restaurant, The Barn Garden Centre, Starbucks, Sainsbury’s, Fleur, Thorntons, Homebase, Nottcutts Garden Centre, GAME, Boots and Maureen Hudson. We would like to say a big thank you for supporting us – helping us to provide vital services and raise awareness in the local community.
Finally, thank you to all our volunteers for helping us put on this event – we raised over £800 which we could not have done without you and we are so grateful for your commitment to our charity. Please click here to visit our gallery page for more pictures of the day.
It was wonderful to see so many people turn up again and we hope everyone enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did!
