We are currently seeking new members for our Board of Trustees.

We are looking for skilled, enthusiastic and reliable people to manage the affairs of Peterborough Association for the Blind. As a trustee of PAB you will have the chance to influence how we support people with serious sight problems, helping PAB to reduce isolation and encourage our members to be involved in community activities.

What will you be doing?

Peterborough Association for the Blind is a long standing charity, the only local organisation supporting people with serious sight problems in the Peterborough area. As a Trustee you will be involved in the governance of the charity, setting the strategic direction as well as supporting the three part time staff.

PAB has recently gone through a period of change with new skilled and enthusiastic staff and agreement from our members to change our name and charity status. This is an exciting time to be involved in setting the direction for the charity as we look to the future. We want to continue to meet the ongoing and emerging needs of our members as well as ensure the smooth and efficient running of the charity.

By becoming a Trustee for PAB you would help ensure this all happens by attending and contributing to the bi-monthly Trustee Meetings.

We expect our Trustees to have

  • A commitment to our organisation and its objectives
  • A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a Trustee
  • Strategic vision
  • Independent judgement
  • An ability to think strategically and creatively and exercise good independent judgement
  • are able to work effectively as a team

We are looking to strengthen our existing Board of Trustees with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, with various life experiences and particularly skills in IT, Public Relations or fundraising.

Of course, if there are any other skills or experiences you have other than those mentioned please do let us know.

As a trustee you will help the governance of PAB by ensuring that we:

  • Are providing high quality services to meet the needs of people with serious sight loss
  • Are growing the number of people we reach
  • Are financially sound
  • Are using our resources wisely, and
  • Are planning sensibly for the future.

To become a Trustee of PAB, you do not need to have experience in working with people with serious sight problems.

What difference will you make?

With a number of activities, suitable and made safe and enjoyable for people with serious sight loss we aim to make a difference to the lives of people who can otherwise feel isolated from their community. By listening to the people we support, we run social activities that reflect their needs and help ensure they are engaged in the community.

The important work of our Board of Trustees enables PAB to continue making this difference to the lives of our members. By providing strong leadership and working on our long-term strategy you will help ensure that our charity is in the best possible position to fulfil our mission.

What’s in it for me?

By becoming a Trustee, you will become part of our team and gain the reward and satisfaction knowing that you helped to ensure that the lives of our members were changed for the better.

As well as having the opportunity to share your knowledge and skills, you will also have the chance to learn from your fellow trustees and take part in the various events that PAB run.

Trustees are elected for a 12 month term each year.
